The Lumière Art-at-Night festival was top notch. The organizers, community members, and artists really came together to make for a wonderful night of art throughout the city of Sydney, NS.
I was performing onsite maintenance as The Hobbyist, walking the main area of the festival for the duration of the night. On my route, I was picking up plastic, talking to people about plastic, and sorting through the garbage that people were throwing into my over-decorated, handmade receptacles. Overall, I noticed that 90% of the garbage I came into contact with was drink related (i.e. single use containers for coffee or high-sugar beverages). The remaining 10% was mostly food related packaging with a little bit of miscellaneous garbage mixed in there. I found these ratios surprising. Perhaps it is due to the nature of an outdoor art festival... I look forward to conducting more case-studies with these receptacles. Here is some documentation of the night. Photos by Corey Katz.
