As part of Arts Days 2020 I installed work in the AAC Kiosk in Rotary Square (outside of Casa). This work was only viewable over the weekend. Over the past few months I have been making several small hanging "fascinators" from discarded and thrift-store-collected materials. I am not sure where exactly these pieces are heading in relation to my larger body of work but it was great to show them off and get some feedback!

Hosted a small workshop last night at Casa where we crafted with trash. Participants had free-range to work with some materials that I had collected and brought from home. A few people even brought in their own collections of potentially-useful plastic waste to craft with! Botanical forms were the dominant theme of the evening but we all had a good time talking about waste and the ways that we can use discarded material to create our own handicrafts.
For the month of September I will be the artist-in-residence at Casa in Lethbridge. My project involves experimenting in the clay studios, transforming some of my molded-plastic clamshell forms into ceramic pieces. I have never worked in clay before so this will be a huge learning experience!!
Here are a few images of my time so far... I have been making plaster molds for slip casting and washing 300 or so potato chip bags and shiny snack packages. |
